FusionEnterprise for IBM® FileNet P8® is a web-based application specifically designed to manage engineering documentation for the design, construction and operation of complex assets.
The functions in the middle of the diagram below represent the core IBM® FileNet® capabilities.
FusionEnterprise for IBM® FileNet P8®:
- Runs as an application on top of IBM® FileNet P8®
- Fully utilises IBM® FileNet® capabilities without duplicating functionality
- Only stores content in the IBM® FileNet® repository
The engineering processes that FusionEnterprise supports are shown in the outer ring of the diagram below :
Amec Paragon is committed to using IBM’s FileNet platform as its ECM. The difficulty the company faced was providing the specialised engineering functions it needed within this framework. One option was to customise FileNet with additional applications, but this would have involved extensive software programming and could have created maintenance challenges further down the line. Amec’s IT team, like that of most companies, is optimised for system configuration rather than development and would have struggled to complete the task effectively. By integrating Fusion and FileNet, installed their engineering solutions alongside the existing ECM.
Currently SAMIR are implementing an electronic document management system aimed at optimising workflows and keeping track of all our internal documentation. Fusion is now in place to manage technical and refining information. SAMIR worked to bring non-technical data into the FileNet system but the additional features of Fusion were required to manage the high volumes of engineering and maintenance information. The ability to better handle documents and integrate legacy information will provide management teams with far greater oversight of their operations and open up new paths to innovation.
